11) Who May File Documents?

Only counsel of record or a person who is a party to the appeal or writ proceeding and is not represented by counsel may file a document in the case. If counsel is being substituted, the substitution of attorneys must be served and filed before any document will be accepted from the new attorney. The substitution of attorneys must be signed by the retiring counsel, new counsel and the client, and it must be accompanied by proof of service on all parties when presented for filing.

(See California. Rules of Court, rule 8.36, found under the Rules tab at the top of this page, for further information.)
