4) Time Limits for Filing Briefs (rules 8.212, 8.400 and 8.416, found under the Rules tab at the top of this page)

All parties will be notified when the record on appeal has been filed with the Court of Appeal.

From the date the record was filed, appellant has 30 days in a civil case, 40 days in a criminal or criminal juvenile case and 30 days in a parental rights case within which to file an appellant's opening brief.

Respondent has 30 days from the date the appellant's opening brief was filed to file the respondent's brief.

Appellant has 20 days from the date the respondent's brief was filed to file an appellant's reply brief if desired.

The child's brief in a parental rights case is due 20 days from the filing of the respondent's brief.
