Appellate Pro Bono Pilot Project

The Appellate Courts Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) in partnership with Public Counsel is operating a pilot program in the Second District Court of Appeal to offer representation to indigent litigants who are without counsel.

The first part of the project is screening civil appeals to identify cases with litigants who are indigent. The parties in selected cases will be contacted by Public Counsel for further screening. All eligible parties will be able to attend a clinic on the appellate process and will be screened to determine if their case is eligible for assistance from volunteer counsel. Members of the Appellate Courts Committee will provide pro bono appellate services that include assisting Public Counsel in case evaluation and serving as volunteer counsel.
