Edwin J. Regan (October 7, 1906 - May 16, 1996)

Associate Justice, January 1965 - June 1987

Born October 7, 1906, in San Francisco, the year of the Great Quake, Edwin Regan was a graduate of St. Mary's College, the University of California at Berkeley, and Hastings College of Law (JD, 1931). After being admitted to the California Bar on October 16, 1931, Regan left San Francisco to seek his fortune in Weaverville, where he practiced law and was elected Trinity County District Attorney in 1934, a position he resigned when he was elected to the State Senate in 1948. He served five terms in the Senate, and chaired the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Joint Legislative Committee for the Revision of the Penal Code, and Joint Judiciary Committee on the Administration of Justice. Regan was appointed to the Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District in 1965 and served until his retirement, June 30, 1987. Justice Regan died at home in Sacramento, May 16, 1996.
