4-5. How do I serve and file exhibits to writ petitions?

A. Formatting. Exhibits must contain a table of contents, be tabbed (by number or letter) on the right hand side and consecutively paginated. (Rule 8.490(d)(B).) Use a red cover.

B. Number of Pages. Don't put more than 300 pages in any single volume of exhibits. Consecutively number the pages. (Rule 8.490(d)(1)(A).) If you don't have many exhibits, you may bind them together in a single volume with the writ petition.

C. Filing. You only need to file an original of the exhibits if they are bound separately from the petition. (Rule 8.44(b)(5).)

D. Service. You must serve a complete set of the exhibits on each real party in interest. You do not have to serve a copy of the exhibits on the superior court. (Rule 8.490(f)(1).)
