14. What is required for requests of extension of time to file a brief?

The requirements can be found in rules 43 and 45, CRC. An extension application must include a showing of good cause for granting the request (other than “press of business”); an exceptional showing is required in juvenile cases. The application must include a list of previous requests granted or denied, be in writing (typed), executed under penalty of perjury and contain a proof of service on all other parties. Besides the original request, the court requires a copy which will be conformed and returned to the applicant and enough additional copies for mailing to all other parties. According to rule 43, the applicant is also to provide the court sufficient postage prepaid envelopes for mailing the order to all parties. See rule 45(f) for “notice to client” service requirements for civil cases.
