Continuing
Education for Court Professionals
Training
Up to 92 hours of
accredited continuing education and training are offered each year to
professional staff and supervisors who provide services to children and
families at California's family, probate, and juvenile courts. These sessions
are also open to family law judges, commissioners, and court administrators.
Mandated Program
The Center for Families, Children & the Courts (CFCC) provides a continuing
education program that is legislatively mandated for those engaged in
court-connected child custody mediation and evaluation. The goal of the
continuing education program is to offer state-of-the-art training designed
specifically for professionals serving children and families in the courts.
Training requirements are defined in the Family Code and are set forth
in standards of practice and rules of court established by the Judicial
Council and the Legislature.
Education Institutes
The following
education institutes and materials are offered:
- The Institute for
New Court Professionals, held each summer;
- Regional Training
Institutes, two days each, held in four regions each fall;
- The Statewide Educational
Institute, in partnership with the Center for Judicial Education and
Research's Family Law Institute, lasting three days each spring;
Diverse Courses
Offered
These programs provide courses each year in domestic violence, legislative
and case law, techniques for alternative dispute resolution skills, child
abuse update, interviewing children, child development, substance and
alcohol abuse, cultural competency, and model and innovative programs.
In addition to training conferences, extensive audiotape, videotape, and
reading materials are available.
