5-Step to Planning Model: Step Three

IDENTIFYING EMERGING TRENDS, STAKEHOLDER EXPECTATIONS, & KEY RESULTS AREAS

DATA GATHERING & ANALYSIS: DEFINITIONS

Data gathering involves the collection of existing and new information related to current court operations and likely future needs. Analysis is carried out by relating the data that are collected to the vision and mission of the court and to its functional areas of responsibility.

DATA GATHERING & ANALYSIS: BENEFITS

The use of trend and stakeholder data to identify key results areas for the local court ensures that the planning process is grounded in fact and is based upon both a long-term view and a broad representation of perspectives.

DATA GATHERING & ANALYSIS: PROCESSES

To ensure that both the team and the people involved in the countywide planning effort experience the importance of accurate information about current circumstances and expectations in guiding the development of the courts' plan, it is important that they:

  • Understand the roles of assessment and analysis in organizational inquiry and improvement;

  • Focus on the critical roles of the "heart" elements of community (i.e., trust, respect, caring, and recognition) in both the assessment and analysis processes;

  • Identify emerging trends that are likely to affect court operations;

  • Gauge stakeholder attitudes and perspectives regarding court needs to make special efforts or focus resources;

  • Use data to determine specific areas where the county courts need to make special efforts and/or focus resources.
