DEVELOPING PRIORITY GOALS & MEASURES OF SUCCESS
PRIORITY GOALS & MEASURES OF SUCCESS: DEFINITIONS
Priority goals are ambitious statements of what should be accomplished in specific areas of need. Measures of success will typically include a mix of behavioral and attitudinal indicators of the ways in which various individuals relate to or do the work of the county courts.
DEVELOPING PRIORITY GOALS & MEASURES OF SUCCESS: BENEFITS
Setting high standards for what the courts should strive to accomplish pushes the planning process toward the pursuit of organizational excellence rather than "band-aid" remedies.
DEVELOPING PRIORITY GOALS & MEASURES OF SUCCESS: PROCESSES
To ensure that both the team and the people involved in the countywide court planning effort establish priority goals and clearly define effective measures of success, it is important that they:
- Understand the nature of priority goals for moving organizations more than "20 minutes into the future";
- Focus on the "hands-and-feet" elements of community as they relate to goal setting and the establishment of measures of success; and
- Create indicators that describe the ways in which individuals will act or feel differently following interactions with the local courts as a result of the successful accomplishment of priority goals.
