Court Administration: Assistance for Self-Represented Litigants
Because court procedures were designed for lawyers, the growing number of self-represented litigants presents challenges for the courts. The Judicial Council's Task Force on Self-Represented Litigants developed an action plan and funding to help the Administrative Office of the Courts:
Develop court-based self-help centers, which were found to be the optimum vehicle for processing cases involving self-represented litigants;
Design, budget, and incorporate effective strategies for managing such cases; and
Develop partnerships between the courts and other organizations to ensure comprehensive services for self-represented litigants.
