Review of Statewide Uniform Child Support Guideline
Family Code section 4054(a) and federal regulations (45 C.F.R. § 302.56) require the Judicial Council of California to review the statewide uniform child support guideline at least once every four years in order to recommend appropriate revisions to the Legislature. The federal and state requirements specify that the review must include an assessment of the economic data on child-rearing costs and a review of case data, enabling officials to analyze the guideline’s application and ensure that deviations from it are limited. The following studies include information on the economic costs of raising children, application of the guideline in California and in other states, and a review of various additional topics, such as low-income obligors, work-related child care expenses, and the treatment of children’s health insurance premiums.
