You are here: Families & Children > Juvenile Delinquency > My Child Was Taken Away From Me; Where Will He or She Go?
If your child was taken away from you:
If your child is sent to the California Youth Authority, he or she will go to a "reception center" for the first 30 to 90 days. The center will find out what education and treatment your child needs. Then your child will go a correctional facility or youth camp.

You can visit your child on Saturdays or Sundays for 2 to 3 hours. It depends on the reception center. The Ventura center lets you visit for 6-1/2 hours.
You can't call your child, but you can write letters. Your child can call you collect from a pay phone.
