What does the landlord do after filling out the forms?

Make 2 copies of the Summons and Complaint forms and take them to the courthouse in the county where the property is located.

Click here for a list of courthouses in California.

The Clerk may ask the landlord if the case is a limited or unlimited civil case. If the rent owed is $25,000 or less, it's a limited civil case. If rent owed is more than $25,000, it is unlimited.

The clerk will file-stamp the forms, and give back 2 file-stamped copies of all the forms. One copy of each is for the landlord. The other is for the tenant.
