How long does the unlawful detainer process take in court?

An unlawful detainer is really fast compared to other lawsuits. Usually the tenant has only 5 days after service of the summons and complaint to file a response. The trial can be set 20 days after the tenant files his or her answer. This means that a case can be finished within as few as 30 days.
