Can a tenant file a cross-complaint in response to an unlawful detainer?

No, a tenant cannot file a cross-complaint in an unlawful detainer lawsuit . If the tenant has any claims against the landlord for personal injury or damage to personal property, the tenant has to file a separate lawsuit to pursue such claims.
