When and how will the sheriff physically evict a tenant from a rental unit?

After the landlord wins an unlawful detainer lawsuit, the court issues a "judgment for possession." The landlord uses the judgment to get a "writ of possession" issued by the court, which is served on the tenant or posted on the property and gives the tenant notice that he or she must leave the property within 5 days. Only the sheriff can enforce this writ by removing the tenant if the tenant fails to leave by the date and time listed on the notice. The tenant can avoid being physically evicted by leaving the premises before the date scheduled for the eviction.
