How long will it take to get a court order changing my child’s name?

After you file the Petition for Change of Name, you will get a court date on the Order to Show Cause between 6 and 12 weeks away. If your paperwork is correct, you followed all the required steps, and the judge finds that it is in your child’s best interests to change his or her name, you will get a court order within a few days. Some courts are busier than others and it may take longer.
